The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is a supramunicipal organization exercising its jurisdiction over the territory of Quebec located north of the 55th parallel . The KRG's Legal, Socio-Judicial and Municipal Management Department is seeking a candidate to fill a position in Kuujjuaq as:

DEPUTY DIRECTOR – LEGAL DEPARTMENT

(Permanent – Full-time)



Reporting to the Director of the Legal, Socio-Judicial and Municipal Management Department, the Deputy Director is called upon to assist the Director in supervising, planning, organizing and coordinating the department's activities.



SPECIAL TASKS:

  • Plan, supervise, coordinate and evaluate the work of employees;
  • Oversee legal support provided to other departments;
  • Supervises the technical assistance offered to northern villages and supervises the operations of the Offense Management Office, which is responsible for processing offense reports in Nunavik;
  • Review various legal documents such as legal opinions, tenders, contracts, leases, agreements, policies, procedures, regulations, orders, resolutions or any other requested documents;
  • Oversee insurance claims for the ARK, northern villages and child care services;
  • Assist the Director during Council and Executive Committee meetings, preparation of budgets, annual objectives and activity reports;
  • Perform any other tasks requested.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar ;
  • Have at least five (5) years of experience in a relevant legal profession, preferably in the municipal sector, and at least three (3) years of experience in employee management;
  • Knowledge of municipal finances will be considered an asset;
  • Proven leadership, organizational skills and initiative;
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and analytical skills, and excellent decision-making skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, in both French and English. Knowledge of Inuktitut is considered an asset;
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Be willing to travel within Nunavik and outside the region;
  • Previous work experience in a multicultural environment, preferably with Indigenous communities, is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.

Salary: Minimum of $107,005 and maximum of $147,116 per year, 35-hour week.
