il y a 7 ansWe don't need a change in law. We need voters to stop being so gullible. Here's a rule of thumb when it comes to politicians: if it looks like crap, and smells like crap, it must be CRAP!

Politician keep a close eye on the gullible-o-meter, and make sure to replenish the gullible crowds faster than the rate at which some gullible join the ranks of the non-gullibles, in an everlasting race that the non-gullibles always loose.
"Proud new canadians" (the more recent the better) serve that purpose, as well as specific segments of the population whose votes can easily be predicted/directed, with the appropriate empty promises.
Old fashion elites ruled by sending in the troops when needed, to crush dissidents who succeded in uniting too many followers.
The trend in western politics for the last 50 years has been to change the populations, and fuel anger between communities. There is no need for repression, as people now fight each other, community leaders fight for subsidies (often for themselves), and dissident movements have a much harder time mobilizing significant numbers of people.
Elites always new that nothing is more dangerous than a united population, and modern times brought them new tools: affordable transportation, and wellfare states unrolling the red carpets for newcomers.

il y a 7 ansVery nicely put. I can't argue with that. I would just like to add that the politicians communicate to those gullible people through dog whistles.

il y a 7 ansMember of the 1% club here, never get an invite to the "elites' policy meetings" which must be necessary to implement the scheme your not paranoid at all mind describes. Do you think it's because I got there from blue-collar roots? How many generations before my descendants get to participate?
